Blog Roll!

Who IS this person with the brand new Tumblr account and an encyclopedic library of gifs?!

Whoever it is, in the past three days, he's gotten Memphis talking by describing our city in a freakishly accurate way.  Though most of the posts on the new What Should We Call Memphis blog are probably meaningless to non-Memphians, I think anyone who reads the B Channel can appreciate THIS ONE.

Amazing.  (And hilarious.)

And while we're on the subject of new blogs, I'd like to extend a shout-out to my good friend Melissa, who has started a fantastic new nature blog.  Melissa is a pretty incredible photographer, not to mention a talented writer, and I've been excited about this new blog of hers ever since she mentioned the idea to me.

When I was in elementary school, I wanted to be an entomologist; instead, I wound up a struggling writer.  Melissa, on the other hand, thought she was headed toward a writing path...until she grew up to be a hobby-entomologist.  (No wonder we're friends!)  But regardless of your personal interests (or career goals), you'll surely gain some soul-restoring good from looking at the images she's captured.

Two very different sites.  Two very enthusiastic thumbs up.

    1. I appreciate each and every time you read, Sasha, and you are certainly under no obligation to comment!! :)

(And yes, I know the entomologist thing is weird. These are the types of things I probably shouldn't admit in public. :D)

  2. Aww...thanks! It's just further proof that we share a brain. One day I'm sure this will result in untold riches, but for now we'll have to be content with awesome blogging.

My friend Katie sent me a similar gif-y website the other day that was devoted to reviewing the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy via horrified gifs. It was pretty amusing.

    1. I think awesome blogging is a form of riches unto itself! But, um, yes, eventual mounds of spendable cash would be nice as well. :)

Gifs, when done right, can crack me up like nothing else. But there's definitely an art to it. I'm totally obsessed with the Memphis blog, but in reading it, I always think, 'this would not be amusing at all if I didn't live in Memphis.'

(And I'll bet the 50 Shades of Grey site is awesome.)

  3. Not really related, but I thought I'd share. We were watching an old episode of King of the Hill on Netflix last night, and they were at a convention in Memphis.

Character 1: We're gonna go to a bar in...Oh, what's the bad part of Memphis called?
    Character 2: Memphis!

Jonathan and I laughed and laughed and laughed! I think you can only laugh at that and not feel badly if you've lived in Memphis (and had several murders occur within blocks of your apartment!) Gotta love it!

    1. Hahaha!! I love it! Although, YES, like much of the Memphis blog, that's something you can really only laugh at if you have the personal experience to appreciate it! (Otherwise, it's kind of mean.) Aw, Memphis camaraderie... :D
