Twenty-Six Point Two

Saturday - 16.3 mile long run

Sunday - rest

Monday - 6 mile tempo run

Tuesday - 4 mile track workout (2.5 miles of speed work; 1.5 miles of warm up/cool down)

A little over two months to go until the St. Jude marathon, and right now, I am capable of running a marathon over the course of four days!  (I actually feel pretty good about that.)

Friend of the runner.
What does it feel like to train for a marathon?  Well, it depends a lot on who's doing the training.  This is only my second marathon, but much like last year, now that I've reached the 16-mile point in my long-run schedule, I AM HUNGRY ALL THE DAMN TIME.  Put food in front of me and I will eat the hell out of that damn food.  I keep finding peanuts all over my kitchen floor, because they're good for a quick hunger fix, but sometimes in my haste to consume them, I throw them all over the kitchen instead of into my mouth.

I AM ALSO TIRED.  Not like "normal" tired.  Like, going-to-bed-at-9:00-p.m.-and-sleeping-the-sleep-of-the-dead-every-freaking-night tired.  My body is resisting the mileage not by wimping out mid-run, but by trying to make me fall asleep before the run.  (I abhor naps, but I've taken two in the past four days.)

If this year is anything like last year, though, by the time we hit 18 miles, I will have pretty much completely adjusted.  It will be a running miracle.

There's a meme on Facebook that's pretty popular among my running friends:  "Never cross a woman who runs 26.2 miles for fun."  In general, I would agree with that sentiment, but if you were going to cross me, I'd recommend doing it sometime in the next week or two, while I'm still all groggy and weak with hunger.

  1. And I am still not close to have a treadmill ... it is an odysee - still.
Now I need to fork out even more money as I just learned...*sigh*

Thinking about joing the "gym" at my work, to have some workout whenever I can leave on time - as I have to be done before 4 pm. I can quit on a monthly basis so that might be an alternative till there is a treadmill in my appartment. *bigsigh*

    1. I totally support the gym idea, even if it isn't ideal. I swear, your saga with getting a treadmill is worthy of its own television show!! I'm sorry you're going to have to pay even more. That seriously sucks... :(

    2. yup, still pondering tho.

trying to get my ass up and do at least the home-routine (a mix of weight training and cardio that you do with solely your body weight).

hahaha that be neat - maybe that way I find someone who will do a great job if only to be on TV ;)

  2. +1 on that. I've been eating like a machine. The last third of the long run is usually spent dreaming of Sonic breakfast.

    1. Foot-long Subway sandwiches are a particular weak spot of mine, although I've upped the amount of Gu I consume during my runs this year and that's at least helped through the last few miles (which always got pretty dire last year). I swear, though, I hit a point last year where it was like my body gave up on thinking I was going to starve and my eating patterns suddenly reverted back to normal (albeit with bigger portion sizes). My grocery bill is looking forward to that happening again...

    3. Hahaha, honestly, I have no idea how I cram it all in!!! I remember a couple of years ago, I wrote something about eating a foot-long and you wrote back something like, "Foot longs are for guys, mate!" I laughed SO HARD. In fact, I think about that and laugh *every single time* I eat a Subway sandwich!! :D
