Okay, is it just me...

...or all the sudden, is there a corporate ad at the very top of your Facebook feed every single time you log in?  I've logged in three or four times today, and every time, the top story was that one of my friends had "liked" some dumb company, followed by an ad for that company.  (Not my idea of a "top" story, Zuck.)

I find this so repulsive that it may inspire me to do what I've been trying to make myself do (with varying levels of success) for, like, the last year:  not log into Facebook so damn much.

Perhaps this is a good time to re-introduce you to my old friend.  He's been away for a while.  But I think he might be ready to come back to us.

(I never gave up hope...never!!)

  1. P.S. Thank you to Leslie for giving me the heads up on this video...and to my parents, for telling me they keep reading about this crazy "new" MySpace... :)

    1. I don't know because I never log out of FB x)

but also I have pulled up the chat to the very top - so I don't really have this "top story" going on anyway ;)

I had it down and kept leaving and getting back, there is different things - from my games or "newspaper" or friends.

    2. I think I’m probably in the minority when it comes to logging out of Facebook. :) My e-mail and Blogger are always open, but I check FB in the morning, and log in throughout the day if I have a message or notification e-mailed to me, but otherwise don’t like to just leave it up. (I also never turn the chat on, so for many reasons, I’m not the stereotypical user!)

The ads look just like they’re normal news stories…except for the part where they’re ads! But maybe Zuck felt my wrath because one was the *second* story when I logged in this morning instead of the first. (Still not cool, Zuckerberg!!)

    3. hehe my chat is off for 99,9 % of the time too... but I still have the list pulled up completely as this "moving thing" with the news annoys me.

on my home device I never log out of anything - besided the online banking.

  2. Oh, I would totally give the new MySpace a shot! I've resisted FB all this time (which makes me quite proud of myself), but I don't have the same ideological qualms with MySpace as I do with FB and it would be nice to do a social network thing without selling ones soul :-)

    1. (I deleted the extra one! :)) I can't say it enough: I'm uber-impressed that you've resisted!! I think you and my friend Megan are the only two I know who have successfully not bought in, and you're both unequivocally the better off for it.

I really hope the new MySpace is as awesome as it looks like it might be. If nothing else, I'm looking forward to just trying out something new!! (Even if that someone new is actually something old. :D)

    2. Oh, great thank you!! :-)

I know a few people that have managed to stay away, but it has not been without its temptations. Sometimes they've (the temptations, not the people) made me keen to just give in and sometimes they've just made my resolve stronger, because I really hate these phenomenons that "everyone" has and you're told you "have to" have. Like a kid I just have to do the opposite.

    3. Haha, I am so the same way!! Well...except in this instance...I joined up early and thus was already committed by the time I realized this was getting out of control... :(

On the upside...OMG, I got my MySpace invite in my e-mail today!!! I can't wait to dig in and see what it's like. I'll be back with a report once I've had some time to figure it all out! :D

    1. AGREED. (This is what happens when you put Justin Timberlake in charge of MySpace. Accurately songed promo clips.)

  5. This is going to be interesting, to see how myspace does this time around. I am intrigued how it looks - I didn't like the old one I have to say. I was a goner after something like 1 week LOL
