The plot is "based on a story by J.K. Rowling" and two other authors, which isn't the same as J.K. Rowling writing the story herself, and the script based on that story wasn't written by her either, although her name is larger on the book cover than the actual author's...
It was a strange trip to read — worth the ride for the novelty, but also cracking the door open for a lot of confusion if you think about things too much.
I'm glad I read it, but looking ahead, I'll probably start back with the originals the next time I feel the urge to revisit Hogwarts.
Thanks for the review. I've had mixed feelings about this book. (Funny, Scorpius & Albus get together?) Will probably read copy from the library for same reason as you, the novelty.
ReplyDeleteI completely rewrote this...the original entry was longer and talked about consuming fanfiction and how Albus/Scorpius has been a thing for years and it was really freaking weird to read something "official" that had such a fanfiction feel. I would love to hear your thoughts after you've read it. Much as I loved those fanfic years, there was something sacred about keeping all of those stories within the fan realm. I'm not sure Cursed Child really added anything to the canon. :-/
